I really love crocheting amigurumi. They are crocheted (or knitted) stuffed animals. Some amigurumi are tiny, and some are BIG (just check out Stacy’s amigurumi over at freshstitches.com to see what I mean). I prefer my amigurumi to be on the smaller side. That way I can actually have a prayer of finishing them in a decent time frame. The bigger ones take me longer–unless of coure I’m creating it for a customer or a specific deadline. But when I’m making it just to make it, they usually do not get finished…
ANYHOW, I’m here today to deliver to you another free pattern! YAY! HOORAY!!!! This little guy’s name is Oliver, he’s a pig. Therefore, I now present to you, for the very first time in a public forum: Oliver the Pig.
Materials
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Baby Pink (MC) and Cafe Latte (A)
Hook: size H8/5mm
Notions: size 9mm craft eyes, embroidery/yarn needle
Gauge
Exact gauge is not essential for this project
Notes:
Crochet in continuous rounds, do not join, unless otherwise noted
To achieve the textured look of the front loops, work only in the back loop throughout
Ears:
Make 2
Row 1: ch 2, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1, turn (1 sc)
Row 2: 2 sc in sc, ch 1 turn (2 sc)
Row 3: 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc (3 sc)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Nose:
Rnd 1: make magic ring, 6 sc in ring, pull closed (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc)
Rnd 3: sc in each sc
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Head:
Rnd 1: make a magic ring, 6 sc in ring, pull closed (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2sc in each sc around (12 sc)
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around (18 sc)
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, rep from * around (24 sc)
Rnd 5-6: sc in each sc
Rnd 7: *sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, rep from * around (18 sc)
Rnd 8: *sc2tog, sc in next sc, rep from * around (12 sc)
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Legs:
Make 4
Rnd 1: W/ A, make a magic ring, 6 sc in ring, pull closed, change to MC (6 sc in A)
Rnd 2: sc in each sc (6 sc in MC)
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around (9 sc)
Rnd 4-5: sc in each sc around
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Tail:
Row 1: ch 5, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 3 sc in each sc across
Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Body:
Rnd 1: make a make ring; 6 sc inside ring, pull closed (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc)
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around (18 sc)
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, rep from * around (24 sc)
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, rep from * around (30 sc)
Rnd 6-10: sc in each sc
Rnd 11: *sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc, rep from * around (24 sc)
Rnd 12: *sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, rep from * around (18 sc)
Rnd 13: *sc2tog, sc in next sc, rep from * around (12 sc)
Fasten off.
Sew the legs to the body in a way that looks good to you. Your pig can sit like a real pig would, stand on all fours, or sit with distinguishable “arms” and legs. It’s up to your own creative ability. Sew the tail to the back of the pigs body. The position will vary depending on how you position the legs. Stuff the body.
Sew the ears to the head. Sew the nose 3/4 onto the head, then stuff the nose. Continue to sew the nose the rest of the way around. Position the eyes above the nose and between the ears. Again, the way they go on will depend on what looks good to you. Once you find the perfect spot, attach the washer to the back. CAUTION: Once the washer is attached, you cannot remove it without damaging the eye. Stuff the head.
Position the head onto the body and attach. This was the most challenging part for me. Try to match one stitch from the body to one stitch from the head to that your pig’s head doesn’t turn out upside down or sideways. If it’s not the way you like it, undo the whipstitch and start again. I think it took me at least 3 (if not 4) tries before I got it the way I liked–of course I’m kinda anal about that sort of thing ^_^.
